MARION SEAWELL
A Journey of Self-Exploration

It is said that all art is autobiographical, and that is especially true of Marion Seawell's work. While her paintings and drawings can be enjoyed by almost anyone — especially anyone who loves animals, as she does — they are in fact a journey of self-exploration.

Marion Seawell was born in 1928 in Yakima, Washington. It was 18 years later, in Big Sur, California, that she was transformed from a teenage girl who loved to draw horses into a true artist. Except for a couple of forays — one to New York for two years, another for six months to a fishing village in Alaska — she has lived all of her adult life in Northern California. Her paintings and drawings tell some of her stories along the way. A catalog, This Has Certainly Been a Lot of Fun, is available.
